Riparian Forest
What it is:
- A Riparian forest is a forested area of land adjacent to a body of water. Riparian comes from the Latin ripa, meaning a stream or river bank.
Benefits-
- Riparian forests help control sediment, reduce the damaging effects of flooding and aid in stabilizing stream
- riparian vegetation causes Biofiltration Protects aquatic animals and plants
- Filters out land pollution filters out nitrogen sediment, organic material, nutrients and pesticides
- Supply shade for aquatic animals that need the cooler temperatures to survive also helps stop the effects of climate change
- supports a greater diversity of wildlife than nearly all non-aquatic areas or upland forests
- high humidity, moist, loose soils
